A day in the life of a model: Beth Riley

E-commerce queen Beth has worked for a range of brands including ASOS, Missguided and Boohoo as well as Topshop and Boux Avenue. We caught up with our BOSS babe to see what she gets up to on an average day.

The first thing I do when I wake up is make a coffee! I don’t even feel the energising benefits of it, I just love the taste and I must be slightly addicted because if I don’t have a cup, it’s all I think about until I do.

My average day
6am – My alarm goes off and I jump out of bed to have breakfast and get ready for my day. I usually don’t have to do my hair or make up which I’m SO grateful for!

7am – I leave the house. Living in Derby means that it can sometimes be around a 1-2 hour commute, depending on the job.

9am – I arrive at work and begin hair and make up.

10.30am – I begin shooting my rail. I mainly shoot e-commerce and can shoot up to 70 outfits in one day!

1pm – We break for lunch – something I always look forward to.

2pm – I have a few makeup touch-ups then back to the studio to shoot the rest of my rail.

6pm – I leave work. Sometimes I’ll meet up with a friend for dinner or drinks, which is good as it means I skip the traffic.

My favourite thing about my job is how every day is different. Although I have regular clients, my routine is usually switched up day-to-day so I could never get bored. It’s so nice to be able to be work with so many different people each day too.

The one thing I would change is the unpredictability of my schedule. I can’t really plan even a day in advance because most clients book me in the day before the shoot. I have learnt to deal with this though. My friends and family know now to ask me at 6pm if they want a definite answer for plans!

My shoot prep involves a long, hot shower. I always arrive with freshly washed and blow-dried hair, smooth legs and underarms and clean, moisturised skin. My work bag is always packed the night before with my shoot essentials: white, black and nude underwear, body moisturiser, a big bottle of water and some healthy snacks.

For a casting I do my make up and hair myself. I just blow dry my hair to shape my face and I use concealer on any blemishes and under eye circles then add a sweep of my favourite Chanel bronzer to give myself a summery glow. To finish I brush and hairspray my eyebrows (they’re so hard to tame!) then add a little mascara and I’m ready to go! I bring along some heels to walk in, my portfolio and model cards to give to the client.

When I get home in the evening I’m greeted very enthusiastically by my little puppy, Bear. He’s a 4 month old German Shepherd and is so needy! I got him for Christmas from my boyfriend (best gift ever!) and we are obsessed with him. We’ll make a healthy dinner and then we will usually take Bear for his evening walk. After that I will catch up on some work (I’m studying Interior Design alongside modelling) then it’s a bath, chill on the sofa and bed!
